ANU Easters 2006

Well another year another bunch of good times at debating tournaments, and with O-week coming around the Easters Committee thought it was time to give you all the low down on Easters 2006.

The crew in Canberra have been working tirelessly away nailing down accommodation, socials and venues to make sure nothing goes wrong when April swings by. As it stands, here are the details for the tournament:

TOTAL TEAM CAP: 80 teams. Stay tuned for news on the individual institution team cap

PRICES - We are presently working on the assumption that rego for debaters will be $225 and rego for adjudicators will be $200, this may change though.

SOCIALS:

Thursday night - to be decided

Friday Night - Bush dance and spit roast in the Yarralumla Woolshed - people often say Canberra is just a big country town, we decided to embrace this attitude and hold a bush dance. Come along and do the kind of dancing that would embarrass even your parents to the tune of a live band, fueled by plenty of free drinks.

Saturday Night - Formal dinner at the National Convention Centre. One of the benefits of holding an event in Canberra is that everything is the 'National'. The other benefit is that the dearth of quality venues like Parliament, the National Museum and the High Court mean we were able to get an excellent venue in the centre of Canberra for about half the price you'd pay in most other cities.

Sunday Night - ANU Bar Karaoke Celebrate or Commiserate by belting out classics with your mates. If the participants suck, well, there's going to be a substantial bar tab to help them sound better to you (unless you're under 18, in which case, we recommend earplugs).

DEBATING VENUES: While most of the rounds and octo finals will be held at the ANU we are presently in negotiations to hold the semi's and grand finals at rather more splendid venues, namely Old and New Parliament House and the High Court.

We hope to show off some of the most spectacular venues in the country, fingers crossed. Any queries, feel free to contact us at anueasters2006@hotmail.com.
